Owner of Sublime Rides and our principle guide, Nigel is Mountain Bike Leader Award (MBLA) Trained, a British Cycling Level 2 Coach, a qualified Trail Cycle Leader, Mountain Bike Leader and Night Riding Leader and also holds National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) Silver Award and an ITC Outdoor Specific First Aid Certificate.
Brought up locally, Nigel has over 20 years experience mountain biking in the Lake District and possesses the excellent trail knowledge that brings. He is a skilled rider and keen Enduro racer, scoring podium results at races in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Nigel also believes in putting back into the sport, he is a Founding member of the Gisburn Forest Bike Trails Team and now spends significant amounts of time during the winter trail building for the grassroots PMBA Enduro Series. He also has 15 years experience as a Countryside Ranger and Conservation Adviser working in the English Uplands, and the outdoor field craft to match.
Nigel says, 'I love guiding mountain bike rides in the Lake District! I love the rocky, technical singletrack; the exposed but beautiful vistas; a long days hike-a-bike in remote terrain; a day out with a family group doing skills coaching; or a classic forest blast away from the crowds'.
and 'The most important thing to me is that you have the best possible guided mountain bike ride or lakeland MTB skills session with Sublime Rides'.

Nick is Mountain Bike Leader Award (MBLA) Trained, a qualified Trail Cycle Leader, Mountain Bike Leader and Night Riding Leader and also holds an Outdoor Specific First Aid Certificate. Nick has been cycling in lakeland for over 25 years and always has another great descent in mind! He is a superb rider and hardtail aficionado, scoring hardtail category podiums in the 2014 PMBA series and finishing with a top 10 in the overall, with no rear suspension! A member of Gisburn Forest Bike Trails Team, he is actively involved in organising skills training at Gisburn Forest. He also has 10 years experience as a Radiographer with the NHS.
Nick says, 'I've been exploring the Lake District all my life, I just can't get enough of the technical descending, there is so much variety on offer; from woodland blasting to the classic lakes passes and high fell routes.'
'One of the things I find most rewarding as a Lakeland MTB guide is showing a group one of my favourite trails - helping them with their bike handling skills - and then seeing the look of satisfaction when they ride them!'
Other Guides: We are a small company and most of our guiding is done by our Owner, Nigel, and Nick. However, we are part of a close-knit community of Lakeland MTB skills guides locally and during busy periods there are several other guides we share work with. Rest assured that these guides are the best we know, they are all close friends and valued riding companions and are all Mountain Bike Leader Award (MBLA) or British Cycling Level 3 Qualified with valid Outdoor First Aid Certification and insurance.
